Delta Psi Omega Rush Week
For my project I was in charge of the Delta Psi Omega Rush week. Rush week consists of different events put on every night. These events are for potential students who are interested in joining a greek organization. These students will get to know more about the organization and what it is all about. They get to know what we stand for and what we do throughout the semester.
The events do vary a little bit depending on the person in charge and the theme, but we usually stick to the same type of schedule. The week begins with meeting all of the different greek organizations. It then moves on to meeting all the sisters of the sorority on a more of one-on-one setting. After this, there is a service project and a dance party. At end of the week we have an invite dinner where we decide who will be let in.

(The sisters getting ready to invite the new members into the circle)
The inspiration for this project started when I took my very first event planning class. In this class I was able to learn what goes into event planning and I immediately grew an interest in running events. I wanted to gain experience in planning events, so I turned to my sorority because there is always amazing opportunities. I learned about what rush week was all about and what it took to take over this position. I decided this would be a great way to gain the experience on how to put on events.
Throughout the process there were some challenges. My first major challenge was ordering the shirts. It was hard to plan on how many shirts to order so their would be enough if any situation arose. Also, the printing shop had difficulties getting my order to me on time. I was barely able to get the shirts on time, which was very stressful.
The second challenge was the process of getting rooms on campus for the events. We usually want to stick to the same rooms for every semester, however the rooms we wanted were already taken. We had to first find out which rooms were available on campus. Then we had to decide which one best fit our needs. In the end we were able to find different rooms that ended up being okay with our events.
This project was able to benefit our new members that we have this semester. This project is based around the potential new members. Rush week is designed to help students to get to know what exactly a sorority is. It will answer all of their questions and concerns they might have. Because of rush week, theses students are now a part of an organization that will give them multiple leadership opportunities and experiences that could help them with their career.
This project was able to benefit myself in many ways. One of the reason I wanted to do this project was because I wanted to gain experience in the event planning area. I was interested in event planning, but I never had a huge opportunity like this before. This project helped me realize that I do love event planning and that I would like to do this in the future as a career. This project was a great insight to what event planning could be.
